Research

Effects of climate change on bioerosion of reef carbonates

I am broadly interested in how the natural bioerosion processes in coral reef ecosystems could be affected under elevated CO2 and temperature conditions. This research problem is highly significant as rapid increases in atmospheric CO2 compromises carbonate accretion and coral productivity and very little is known regarding the potential synergy of ocean acidification and global warming to intensify the bioerosion process. My research is focused on the effects of elevated CO2 and temperature in dissolution of major calcifying components (e.g corals and crustose coralline algae).
